We believe that a true and comprehensive
understanding of Islam would not be possible without careful recognition of the
Prophetic Tradition and the Prophet's Household. And Allah is the Source of Strength.
Language Of God 4
"
In the original proposition Language of God, we
highlighted how 03 acts if done by a man is the same as if doing what God did
himself; Reading the Quran, Sending the Durood, and Speaking the Truth.
In the second part Language of God 2, we
expanded how mathematics is miraculously sophisticated and is the closest thing
being the language of God given it is use to measure, universal in nature, does
not lie, knows the unseen and the future, and is full of might and wonder.
In the third part Language of God 3, we flirted with the idea how destiny and free will can be mathematically explained.
In this forth part, we will continue to build onto my fascination with mathematics and how maths helps understand the message of God.
The Imaginary Number - Maths defines the concept of imaginary numbers, or numbers (denoted as i) which when squared giving the answer -1. It is impossible to envisage what an imaginary number would be like in real life. It is the unseen. But the evidence of their existence is through their application in real world applications in the field of physics and engineering. The prophets and the Quran have used various logical, philosophical and scientific arguments throughout to prove the oneness of Allah and presence of a creator. Yet, Quran emphasizes that the believers must eventually have faith in the unseen.
The Infinite - Mathematically, Infinite has no start and has no end. It is incomprehensible. It is arithmetically indivisible so remains one or singular as a concept. If all the numericals were creations, then surely infinite would have been their god.
The Triangle - The sum of the interior angles of any triangle always equals 180 degrees, no matter what you do. It is as if it is the destiny of the triangle which cannot be avoided. But there is an element of free will. We can choose one length of the triangle as per our desire and can make it as long or short as we want it to be. There is more free will to it. We can also choose the length of its second side as per our desire and can make it as long or short as we want it to be according to our free will. But once we have made these 2 choices, we cannot influence what its third side will be like. As the sum of the interior angles are always destined to be 180 degrees, the third side of the triangle will be destined such that the angular addition sums up to be 180 degrees. We have no control over this outcome of the third side, no matter what we do.
The Butterfly Effect - The butterfly effect, a concept in chaos theory, describes how small initial changes in a system can lead to vastly different outcomes. The butterfly effect is the idea that small, seemingly trivial events may ultimately result in something with much larger consequences – in other words, they have non-linear impacts on very complex systems. The Quran says in [5:32] whoever kills a soul unjustly is as though he slew all men; and whoever saves someone is as though he kept alive all men
The Venn Diagram - Remember circles we used to learn in secondary maths which were used to depict sets and subsets? If there is one circle, everything in that circle belongs to the same set, for example, if the circle represents animals, then all animals will be inside that circle and all non-animals will be outside the circle. If there were two circles, one showing all animals, and one showing all things having four legs (including furniture), then where these two circles will intersect will show you animals having 4 legs (as that is what the overlap of the venn diagram will denote). There are many venn diagrams in Islam. Make a circle and put all the believers in that circle (of the 8 billion people today, including believers who are criminals as well). Make another circle and put all good people in that circle (irrespective of age, religion, gender etc, even atheists). Then make another circle and put all the people in that circle who tell others to do good (including people who themselves do not do any good and preach to others who themselves do not follow it). Then make another circle and put all the patient people in it (including the criminal who is patiently planning to do a crime). These four circles are independent of each other and each individual in each of the circle represents someone who are not successful. As Allah in Surah Al Asr has beautifully described this venn diagram as the people who are successful are the ones who belong to the intersection of where all these 4 circles overlap with each other. Similarly, a subset is a circle within a circle. If there is a circle of all human beings on this earth, then being a male is a subset of that circle, meaning that all male are human beings but not all human beings are males (as there are other subsets within the circle of the set of human beings). Imagine there is a larger circle representing all those who believe in the Tauheed of Allah, the day of Qayamah and those who pray to Allah alone. This circle is not promised paradise. However, there will be a subset within this circle representing those who have been promised paradise by Allah. This subset within the larger circle, represent all those who respect the authority of Allah and the limits set by Him. Iblis and his likes will be placed in the larger circle, outside this subset as belief in Tauheed of Allah and surrendering to the Authority of Allah are indeed two very different aspects of faith yet are not mutually exclusive.
No wonder the beauty of mathematics helps explain the wonder of God, because as the Quran says, there is a measure with Allah of everything [13:8]. "
